IWCO Direct Employees TAG Their Coworkers to Express Appreciation

John Ashe

In mid-July, IWCO Direct’s parent company, Steel Partners, kicked off TAG to thank all of its employees who have worked and continue to work so diligently during the pandemic. TAG, which stands for “THANKS AND GRATITUDE,” provided a simple way for employees to recognize their coworkers by submitting a “post-it” or email to HR to express thanks to someone who went above and beyond to help them, their team, our company, or our communities during the pandemic. Our HR representatives then posted the TAGs on a board, or compiled an email that was sent out to the location so everyone could read the TAGs and spread the appreciation.

Everyone who thanked a coworker was entered into a lottery to win one of 15 $500 American Express gift cards. The gift cards were provided by Warren Lichtenstein, Executive Chairman of Steel Partners to say thank you to all of the employees across 16 Steel Partners operating companies.

The response to TAG is best described with superlatives like amazing, awesome, and inspirational. A total of 2,912 TAGs were received across Steel Partners. I am so proud to report that 1,093 of the entries were submitted by IWCO Direct, demonstrating the amazing, awesome, and inspirational culture in place in our four locations (Chanhassen, MN, Little Falls, MN, Hamburg, PA, and Warminster, PA) and across the country in our remote offices.

Here are some of my favorite TAGs (for the privacy of our employees, names have been removed):

Thanks for helping with creating a new, safer work area in CH3 for the QA team; overall – for always lending a hand when needed.

Thanks for taking the time to discuss options with me on upcoming projects. You are a wonderful brainstorming partner and I sincerely appreciate all your commitment to finding the best sustainable solution.

Thanks for helping create a simple and efficient program, allowing employees to scan their ID badges so we can record their daily temperature checks. This was created within a short window timeframe, allowing the building to continue to operate under the current CDC Guidelines.  Always willing and able to complete any task thrown at her. Thank you!

Thanks for not only fixing the machines but also always putting a smile on Machine Operators faces. He can turn a bad day into a good one just by talking to him!

Thank you so much for checking on the Planning team computers while we are remoting in.

Thanks for your patience and diligence working through system enhancements for our team – you do a fabulous job juggling all the details!

Thanks for your collaboration in our new world of remote working! We couldn’t do it without the great support you and your team provide.

Thank you for being professional and strict, yet respectful and fair, silly and down to earth. Your positive attitude makes us all laugh and smile even in these tough times.

Thanks for always bringing a positive attitude and approach to challenges – I appreciate the way you always encourage and build people up!

Thank you being such a great “problem-fixer” regardless of the challenges we might throw at you.

Thank you for taking charge and ensuring that everyone was safe during the pandemic.

There are 1,082 more TAGs on my desk that express what I have felt since joining IWCO Direct three months ago. We have amazing, awesome people who inspire me every day with their passion, pride, and commitment. TAG to everyone!
