We just learned of a new benefit from our media monitoring service: It provides visibility to an employee’s achievement when she is too modest or humble to tell us about it herself. Imagine our surprise and delight when “Megan Lester” and the video below appeared in our daily report!
That’s right: our very own Megan Lester (sales director, national accounts) received the Distinguished Service Award from her alma mater, Cal Poly. The award recognizes alumni for their contributions to their educational communities and Cal Poly culture, including scholarship fundraising, volunteer organization, and more.
As the video describes, in addition to her role with IWCO Direct, Megan is passionate about volunteering. She has dedicated 10 years to the Junior League of Orange County (JLOCC), serving in a variety of roles from vice president to recruitment chair of the JLOCC’s primary fundraiser. In 2013, she joined the board of the Cal Poly Alumni – Orange County Chapter and brought her passion and experience to the mission of connecting with the more than 9,000 alumni living in and around Orange County.
Megan served as president of the Orange County chapter from July 2015 through July 2018. During that time, the chapter hosted a record 38 events, strengthening alumni engagement across the county. Megan founded the chapter’s Fork ‘N’ Bottle Scholarship fundraiser in 2015, and under her leadership the event grew to host more than 185 people and raised $36,000 in scholarship funds in its first three years. While at Cal Poly, Megan was the president of the Sigma Kappa Sorority. Those of us at IWCO Direct know she’s also a world traveler who balances her crazy, busy role at IWCO Direct with trips to amazing places around the globe.
Ellen Cohune, Executive Vice President of Cal Poly’s Alumni Association, says Megan “transformed what it means to be an alumnus in Orange County” and she is “one of the most enthusiastic women you’ll ever meet. She’s smart, funny, and has endless energy” (we agree!). Megan attributes her love for the graphic arts to her Cal Poly education and experience. She also brings that love, energy, and enthusiasm to her clients and the IWCO Direct teams that support them. (She also has plenty to say about direct marketing as a regular SpeakingDIRECT author.)
Megan is a leader in our sales organization, so it’s no surprise that she gives back by leveraging her skills to help students in the graphic communication program at Cal Poly. I can’t think of a better advocate than Megan to connect the business world with the institution that is cultivating the future stars who will follow her lead to greatness.
Congratulations, Megan! We salute you and could not be more proud of your amazing achievement. We’ll keep a close eye on our media monitoring reports to see what you do next.
