According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the US job market is seeing historically low unemployment rates. That’s great news for our economy and those job-hunting, but can lead to challenges for employers who are having to fight for qualified individuals. This is also true at IWCO Direct—for instance, it took more than five months for us to find the right two candidates to join our growing IT department. After countless hours of discussing skillsets and strategies to attract talent, another very real challenge has surfaced: there are several employees within our own department who get calls from recruiters who’d like to hire them for our competitors. With so many opportunities out there, it can be hard to decide which company fits you best.
What Brought Me Back to an IT Career at IWCO Direct
One of the bragging rights I personally have, and one I share with many interviewees, is that I have interviewed for the company twice. That is to say, I worked at IWCO Direct, left for a different opportunity, and then came back to IWCO Direct after a year. Why? The answer, hands down, is the people. A lot of companies can describe their workplaces using words like “culture” and “teamwork,” but when it really comes down to interacting with various people and departments at IWCO Direct, I have yet to meet more caring and genuine people than those who work here!
Cross-functionally, teams are willing to lend a hand where needed, so we all succeed as a whole. The average American spends one third of their life at work, so it’s no wonder our coworkers play a huge role in job satisfaction! The amount of time we spend at work means building relationships, and making friends (not just coworkers) is important.
The turnover is low at IWCO Direct, and I truly believe it’s because people enjoy not just the work they do but also who they work with. In addition to the fantastic people who make my job enjoyable, I have to extend a compliment to the leadership team, as well. The entire lead team values employees’ thoughts and opinions. You don’t feel like just a number in the organization, but a respected and valued employee.
IT Careers that Support Learning and Promote Growth
Future candidates should know that IWCO Direct is an excellent place to work for many reasons, including those cited above, but it’s really the entire package that makes a difference. Everyone works really hard here—and it doesn’t go unnoticed. In addition, you get flexibility, work-life balance, and career growth opportunities. As for the current employees who get the recruiter calls, I’m happy to report they gracefully decline any discussions because this is such a great place to work!
