Year Over Year, Our Sustainability Initiatives Help Us Move Up the Canopy Blueline Ranking

Karen Weil

We’ve explained in the past that embracing environmental stewardship requires an understanding that it’s more a marathon than a sprint. It takes a commitment to developing a plan and setting goals, and then working hard to get a little better each year. But like a runner setting a new best time, you also need to recognize certain milestones and celebrate key achievements.

That’s why we’re proud to share that the Blueline Ranking by Canopy, one of the best-recognized names in sustainable business advocacy, recently ranked us among the top 10 printers in the United States.

The Blueline Ranking rates companies on a set of 32 key sustainability criteria and highlights sector leaders for consumer brands. IWCO Direct is #9 in the ranking because Canopy believes we are outperforming our peers in areas such as not using papers that contain ancient and endangered forest fiber, working to advance conservation solutions, supporting the development of new environmental papers, and bringing a high degree of transparency to our sustainability initiatives.

Our paper procurement policy, which outlines our stringent standards for sourcing all of our paper-based products, along with our company-wide recycling practices and other initiatives through our in-house Environmental Council, helped us secure ninth place this year.

Canopy is an organization that engages business leaders like IWCO Direct to begin the conservation conversation. With Canopy, we’ve been able to outline  what we can do to improve our sustainability, set real sustainability goals, and solicit feedback to measure not just how far we’ve come reaching those goals, but how much we can still do to be more eco-friendly. As a producer of paper-based communications and a progressive leader in direct marketing, we have a responsibility to monitor our place in the industry—and the Blueline Ranking is one of the best resources we have for evaluating our efforts.

Since 2015, we’ve been moving up the ranking—from 18th to 10th to 9th—and while we’re proud to see our name among the most dedicated companies in the printing industry, and the highest ranked producer of direct mail, we’re also eager to identify ways we can do even better while maintaining the quality IWCO Direct clients have come to expect.
