What We’re Looking Forward to at &THEN, Besides the So Cal Weather

IWCO Direct has been attending the annual DMA Conference for more than 35 years but this is the first year anyone can remember that the conference, now called &THEN, will be held in Los Angeles. As a southern California native, I’m actually relieved to battle familiar LA traffic rather than airport security lines, flight delays and a three-hour time change. My fingers are crossed that So Cal will join popular DMA cities like New Orleans, Boston and San Francisco (a popular California location for drawing high attendance) as “must go” locales.

This year’s agenda promises great sessions and some unique keynote speakers. After exploring what’s in-store at &THEN a new addition caught my eye – the one-on-one clinics with marketing experts. However, I’ll admit I’m disappointed to see a very critical channel to any integrated marketing campaign, direct mail, was missing from its cohort of data, email, social and digital clinics. If you too were hoping for a direct mail clinic, you’re welcome to swing by booth 643 and we’ll share how IWCO Direct-style inspiration can help power your marketing in 2017.

The Science of Creativity, Engaging Millennials and Data in Media sessions are sure to generate a lot of buzz. We’ll be paying close attention to see if the millennial research we’ve shared on SpeakingDIRECT will be cited at the conference. “Connecting with the Consumer in an Age of Skepticism” should also yield some great insight for our in-house marketing strategists. The DMA always offers an opportunity to tune into common skepticism that marketers share with integrating their marketing channels and evaluating which brands garner trust.

My colleague, Debora Haskel, is looking forward to attending the invitation-only Strategic Summit on Monday. If you were hoping to attend you’ll have to wait until next year or tune into her blog to catch the recap. It’s a sold-out event this year! The theme of this year’s summit is “Moving from the Data Age to the Human Age.” The promise of “a global review of data-driven marketing from top leaders” makes us thankful we registered early for this special &THEN event.

Like many, I’m anticipating some renewed energy and a wide spectrum of attendees who are ready to enjoy the five “inspiration sessions,” two flashback bands, and as many of the 120+ marketing presentations as I can squeeze in when I’m not in the IWCO Direct booth in the Experience Zone.
