What Labor Day Means to IWCO Direct

Joe Morrison

To most Americans, the first Monday in September is a welcomed extension to the weekend and a final chance to take advantage of the all too fleeting summer. But ironically, despite being synonymous with free time, the creation of Labor Day is the result of a lot of work by a lot of people.

It honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the country. Beginning in the late 19th century, as the labor movement grew, supporters proposed that a day be set aside to celebrate labor. In 1887, Oregon was the first state to make Labor Day an official public holiday. By the time it became an official federal holiday in 1894, 30 U.S. states officially celebrated Labor Day. Today, Labor Day is a celebration of American workers and a symbol of respite for hardworking Americans in every field and industry – including direct marketing.

Labor Day also reminds us that we have many reasons to be thankful for IWCO Direct’s dedicated employees. Even though we’re not yet three-quarters of the way through 2016, our employees have helped us accomplish quite a bit in the last year: They’ve helped position IWCO Direct among the safest workplaces in our industry, helped us welcome an increasingly diverse workforce, and added new certifications to strengthen our security practices (to name just a few).

Every member of our workforce contributes to our safe, welcoming and secure workplace every day; they bring talent and unique perspectives to every aspect of IWCO Direct’s business; and they recognize the value of longevity and investing their passion in a rewarding career with a company that can help them grow in their profession.

At IWCO Direct, Labor Day is a chance to celebrate our workforce’s tireless efforts to do great work for our clients and the opportunity to be part of a great team. We want to thank IWCO Direct employees for making it possible for us to continue to be a leader in direct marketing. We’re reminded of our team’s contributions and efforts – from all parts of the organization – with every client we serve and every mailpiece we produce.

To all our employees, thanks for your dedication and support – and happy Labor Day!
