My Biggest Takeaways from the Inkjet Unveiling with Canon Solutions America

The recent Canon Solutions America’s Future of Inkjet Customer Event was a tremendous success. Not only did it give us an opportunity to showcase our new equipment during the inkjet unveiling, it gave me an opportunity to have numerous in-depth conversations with many of the attendees. I wanted to share a few final thoughts and my personal highlights from the event.

From a professional standpoint, my favorite aspect was having peers from across the industry visit our facilities and watching their reaction as they viewed the new equipment as well as our overall operation for the first time. Of course, the main question I was frequently asked was why we chose to purchase both the VarioPrint i300 and the ImageStream 3500? There were also a lot of discussions focused on media and ink. The “ah ha” moment for most, though, seemed to center on the realization that the workflow requirements become rapidly more complex and demanding as you move toward leveraging true dynamic content.

Obviously the time spent at the new devices during the inkjet unveiling was invaluable in understanding the strengths and limitations of the equipment. Canon provided excellent content in the sessions prior to the tours, which made the demonstrations more effective and meaningful. If you have been following the evolution of production inkjet, the content demonstrated the rate at which the technology is evolving and, frankly, being adopted.

From a personal standpoint, having my son, who works at Hal Leonard, attend the event with his boss was very rewarding. Hal Leonard is a music publisher that produces sheet music, learning and practice books for every type of instrument. The opportunity to share our experiences and allow them to see the equipment firsthand was definitely fun.

Don’t Miss the thINK Customer Conference

Finally, the Canon Solutions America event gave me another chance to meet with fellow leaders of thINK. As a board member and one of the founders of thINK, I am very excited about the upcoming thINK Conference 2015, September 8-10 in New York. It will provide a forum for print production customers of Canon Solutions America, solution partners and inkjet experts from around the industry to network, learn, discuss challenges and share best practices in order to continue the evolution of inkjet technology and showcase it as a powerful new way of bringing print to life. This will be a great event and an opportunity to be at the first of many future thINK events. If you have inkjet equipment or plan to acquire some in the near future, this event will be well worth the time.
