Visit Us at John Kline’s Job Fair

Bev Lohs

On Monday, May 12, IWCO Direct will be participating in Minnesota Congressman John Kline’s Job Fair. This event, hosted by the Eagan Community Center from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., features more than 40 private-sector employers in hopes of connecting skilled Minnesotans with jobs.

IWCO Direct will be featuring a number of positions in a variety of departments including Information Technology and Client Services. We’ll also be looking for equipment technicians, printer operators and machine operators for our Operations team. And for those who are home from school for the summer, we’ll also be recruiting for a few summer intern positions.

Employers like IWCO Direct look for a set of skills from each job-seeker as it relates to the specific job or technical skill.  Most employers desire solid communication and problem solving skills, team work, interpersonal skills and values like dedication and reliability.

Beyond that, job candidates often ask us how they can stand out from the crowd. To be effective at a job fair, you need to be ready to make a good impression. Companies will be evaluating you at every turn, so be sure to showcase yourself and get noticed. As the saying goes, “you never get a second chance to make a first impression.”

A few years ago, a job seeker at the John Kline Job Fair was able to make a first impression that lasted. He was confident, made himself noticed and impressed us. We hired that job seeker, Dan Horak, right about the time we were in the initial stages of designing our Sales Development Program. Today Dan is a successful Sales Associate.

If you want to stand out like Dan did, be sure to follow these tips:

  • Do some research to know who will be attending and make a list as to which employers you will visit. Be prepared to have some sense of what the organization does to determine if they match your career interests and you match their needs.
  • Be prepared. Visit their websites in advance to learn about the company and culture – walking up to the booth and asking “what does your company do?” may not earn you an interview or further discussion. Don’t ask for information you could have easily learned on the employer’s website.
  • Make yourself stand out with clever questions.

For those prospective job seekers in Minnesota who can’t attend the John Kline Job Fair, we will be attending a couple of events in the near future that feature our openings. On May 14 we will be at the CLUES Career Fair in Minneapolis. And on May 21 IWCO Direct will be the Employer of the Day in Shakopee. Feel free to visit our Careers page to learn more about our openings and working at IWCO Direct.

Best of luck in your job search!
