Today is Veterans Day. With an intriguing history, this holiday has long been a staple in American culture:
“On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War, then known as “the Great War.” Commemorated as Armistice Day beginning the following year, November 11th became a legal federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day, a holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars.”
A lot has happened since then, and our country continues to face difficult challenges, but we do live in an amazing nation. Today we are reminded of those who have made, and continue to make, tremendous sacrifices for America. We can be proud of their dedication and reassured of their ability to protect our future.
As we prepare for the hustle and bustle of another holiday season, please don’t let this important day come and go without taking a moment to reflect on the sacrifices of our past and current soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and coast guard personnel. Thank a co-worker or loved one who has served.
On behalf of IWCO Direct, we’d like to recognize all who have served our country, including our own IWCO Direct veterans. It is with supreme respect and admiration that we honor your willingness to protect freedoms enjoyed by all. Thank you.
