What’s New and What Not to Miss at DMA 2013

As you can tell by the DMA countdown clock on our website, we’re eagerly awaiting our trip to DMA 2013 in Chicago (17 days and counting). With technology and consumer trends changing at such a rapid pace, this year’s event is sure to be full of informative sessions and spirited discussions. If you’ll be at the show, we invite you to stop by booth #511 and say hello. However, if you’re not able to make it, we’ll do our best to bring DMA 2013 to you by posting an article each day from the floor, so be sure to check SpeakingDIRECT often.

While planning for the event, I talked with Pat Deck and Debora Haskel about our booth, what we’re most looking forward to and a few of the keynotes we plan to attend. More than ever, we’re excited to showcase our digital platform and capabilities and discuss how we’re transforming direct marketing campaigns for our clients. We look forward to the DMA Conference every October because it gives us a chance to see so many of our customers in one place. It’s also a great opportunity to get their feedback, discuss new ways to create value together and, of course, express our appreciation for their trust in our team. And if we can find the time, a few of us might sneak in a visit to the Field Museum to take in “Images of the Afterlife” and “Creatures of Light” or perhaps stop by another local establishment.

Keynotes of Interest

While each day includes a thought-provoking keynote, one stands out from the rest for me. Nate Silver’s special keynote on Monday entitled, “Big Data – Powerful Predictions Through Data Analytics,” is one you can’t miss. If anyone knows how to analyze data for strategic purposes it’s him. You may be familiar with his amazing ability to predict the outcome of presidential elections. In 2008, he correctly picked 49 out of 50 states, and in 2012 he nailed all 50 states. We’ve been wildly successful helping clients leverage data to drive ROI and develop innovative package designs that win. I expect his session will strengthen our resolve to use data to its full marketing potential through our current – and future – Marketing Sciences initiatives.

Both Debora and Pat have their eye on Monday morning’s “Listen to the Data” keynote by Terry Jones, founder of Travelocity.com and founding chairman of Kayak.com. Debora is eager to hear what he has to say about breaking through the “bozone layer,” as well as his theory on the “two pizza team” because of her own experience with how innovative smaller teams can be. Pat is looking forward to the discussion on how best to use the billions of bytes of data from someone who lives this every day.

Join Us for the Solutions Showdown

We will also be participating in the “CRM & Loyalty” Solutions Showdown on Monday from 3:30 – 4:00 p.m. in the DMA Town Square. Details of this event are still coming together, but we can tell you it will be similar to a “lightning round” session where we have just a few minutes to demonstrate our expertise in building customer loyalty for leading brands. If you’re at the show, we hope you have a half-hour on Monday to come support us.
