Today we have the pleasure of announcing that IWCO Direct has been recognized by the Envelope Manufacturers Association (EMA) and Minnesota Safety Council for excellent safety performance and ongoing dedication to implementing a comprehensive safety program.
While we celebrate our commitment to safety today, these awards are the result of a tremendous amount of dedication by everyone at IWCO Direct to create a culture where safety permeates nearly everything we do. Every shift begins with a goal of zero injuries. Our supervisors, employees and safety leads all understand that complacency is the largest threat to a safe work environment.
One of the ways we fight complacency is with constant communication and teamwork. Nearly every issue of our employee newsletter has an article focused on safety. Teams regularly meet to review safety procedures and best practices. Safety leaders, managers and employees provide constant reminders to their peers on the dangers of taking shortcuts, the need to always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and the importance of performing tasks as instructed. Employees are trained to recognize potential hazards and empowered to bring any issues to the attention of their supervisor or Site Safety Lead.
Great leadership is another way we strive to ensure a safe work environment. Along with excellent performance from our Safety Leads, we’re excited about the addition of Mary Wells as Risk Manager in our Human Resources department. Mary will manage the safety program and Safety Leads in Minnesota and Pennsylvania. She will also work in tandem with the HR/Benefits team to maintain an environment that promotes safety and well-being at all of our facilities.
We’ve also expanded our focus on safety. We’re doing tremendous things when it comes to hearing conservation and respiratory protection. We’re working with an ergonomics expert to create a world class program to reduce injuries from repetitive motion and stress. Our Lean Manufacturing efforts have embraced safety as well, with Kaizen events focused on creating safer work environments and Standard Work processes for alerting the Incident Response Team in the event of an accident.
Finally, while our goal is zero injuries, if there is an accident, we’re committed to investigating it within 24 hours of occurrence, with an understanding that the focus should be on identifying what happened, what the root cause was and what we can do to prevent a recurrence in the future.
I’m extremely proud of how everyone at IWCO Direct has embraced a commitment to safety. Maintaining a safe work environment improves our employees’ well-being, makes them more productive and ensures our customers’ direct mail campaigns are produced as efficiently as possible.
