It’s been a mild winter here in Minnesota. Temperatures are up and snow levels are down, but the water in Lake Calhoun is as cold as ever. Trust me, you can take our employees’ word for it.
On Saturday, March 3, a team of 23 IWCO Direct employees participated in the Polar Bear Plunge – an annual fund-raising event for the Special Olympics, sponsored by Minnesota law enforcement. For the past two years the team captain has been Sarah Shea, an Account Manager in our Client Services department. Her passion for Special Olympics and the benefits this program has provided for her son has been the driving force behind our participation in this event.
For those not familiar with the Plunge, the name is fitting. A large hole is cut into an icy lake, and participants spend weeks raising pledges (either online or offline) before diving into the freezing water. Events are held throughout the state from January through March.
IWCO Direct was well represented at the Lake Calhoun event. Our team far surpassed its goal of $14,000, raising $17,300 for this great cause. Overall the IWCO Direct team came in 3rd place in the corporate division for the Minneapolis event. Totals from the day included 3,729 participants who raised $709,686 for Special Olympics Minnesota – not bad for a chilly afternoon in March.
We couldn’t be prouder of our plungers. Thanks to everyone who braved the freezing water for a cool cause!
