Two weeks ago, Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring, which would be a welcomed relief from this particularly cold and snowy winter. But it seems the weather isn’t the only thing with a brighter outlook for the coming months. According to the current edition of Direct Marketing News, reports indicate direct marketing staff increases are expected in 2011.
According to Bernhart Associates Executive Search, 52% of the 395 companies surveyed in January are planning to add digital and direct marketing staff in Q1, an 11% increase from last quarter. Reardon Smith Whittaker found in a survey of 100 agencies that 63% expect to increase headcount in 2011. And the Direct Marketing Association expects the direct mail sector to also increase hiring, in conjunction with a 3.9% spending increase anticipated for this year. This comes on the heels of a January report by the Winterberry Group, which also expects direct mail to grow by a healthy 5.8% in 2011, driven by a return to acquisition mail.
At IWCO Direct, we are seeing positive signs as well. Our current Job Openings board recently added many listings –from client services representatives to equipment operators to financial planners. We are also looking for experienced direct marketing sales professionals to help clients enhance their customer acquisition, loyalty and engagement programs.
While the economy isn’t completely out of the woods yet, there is more to smile about every day. It looks like the business climate will continue to improve, along with the weather.
